EM Asset Setup
Company Tracker action: implementation-setup-em-asset-setup
Milestone: Equipment Management / Module Setup (milestone_id=15, core_milestone_id=2)
Order: 20
Estimated duration: 0.5 hours
Typical owner: Controller
Purpose
Complete the Equipment Management Module Setup action for EM Asset Setup so decide/load/accept is clear before live EM. Form field detail stays on the Vista article.
Prerequisites
- Optional capability: enable only when in scope (otherwise hide via Tracker visibility).
- Equipment records exist in EM Equipment.
- Depreciation close mode and related defaults are set on EM Company Parameters.
- Know purchase/residual values, useful life (months), method, and whether you need schedule overrides for existing assets.

See the detailed Vista guide:
Field meanings and form steps live there. Do not restate them on this page.
Implementation guidance
- What it is: asset setup is effectively the depreciation schedule. Every asset the client is tracking needs to be set up here.
- Assets belong to equipment: every asset is assigned to a piece of equipment. A piece of equipment can have several assets, but an asset can't be assigned to more than one piece of equipment.
- Non-equipment assets: clients often have assets that aren't equipment, like furniture and fixtures or leasehold improvements. Vista still requires a piece of equipment before the asset can be added.
- Decide / load / accept: list every asset the client tracks, make sure each has a piece of equipment to sit under, set up the assets, and accept with the Controller.
Tips and gotchas
- The asset-to-equipment requirement confuses clients, but it's very common. For non-machinery, non-truck assets, set up a category called Fixed Assets and assign those equipment records to it for simplicity.
Done when
- In-scope setup for this action is loaded (or explicitly N/A / hidden when optional and out of scope).
- Owner accepts the decide/load result for go-live.
- Linked Vista configuration matches what was accepted.
