Purpose
Complete the Equipment Management Module Setup action for EM Categories so decide/load/accept is clear before live EM. Form field detail stays on the Vista article.
Prerequisites
- EM Company Parameters is configured.
- Know how equipment will be grouped for shared rates (for example excavators, pickup trucks, generators).
- Plan to create categories before Revenue Rates by Category rows.

Implementation guidance
- What they are: categories group equipment however the client needs, such as trucks, dozers and excavators. Category is a required field on each piece of equipment.
- Main reason: besides reporting, the primary reason for categories is setting revenue rates per category. Revenue rates are the internal rate charged when equipment is charged to a job or to an expense. For example, trucks could be 100 and bulldozers 125.
- Overrides: rates can also be set at the equipment level. An equipment rate replaces the category rate entirely, for that revenue code.
- Decide / load / accept: agree the categories, key them before Revenue Rates by Category, and accept with the Controller.
Tips and gotchas
- Rates are set per revenue code, typically hourly, daily, weekly and monthly. Each one can have its own rate and unit of measure, so a truck can have one hourly rate and a different daily rate in the same category.
Done when
- In-scope setup for this action is loaded (or explicitly N/A / hidden when optional and out of scope).
- Owner accepts the decide/load result for go-live.
- Linked Vista configuration matches what was accepted.
