EM Cost Types
Company Tracker action: implementation-setup-em-cost-types
Milestone: Equipment Management / Module Setup (milestone_id=15, core_milestone_id=2)
Order: 2
Estimated duration: 0.5 hours
Typical owner: Controller
Purpose
Complete the Equipment Management Module Setup action for EM Cost Types so decide/load/accept is clear before live EM. Form field detail stays on the Vista article.
Prerequisites
- EM Company Parameters and GL expense or asset accounts for equipment costs exist.
- Know the broad maintenance buckets you need (labor, parts, sub-out repair, miscellaneous, ownership).
Vista configuration article
See the detailed Vista guide:
Field meanings and form steps live there. Do not restate them on this page.
Implementation guidance
- What they are: cost types are the broad buckets of equipment cost the client wants to track.
- Common setup: Labor, Parts, Outside Repair, and Other. Some clients also add Depreciation, which isn't required. Clients that are very heavy into equipment may add an allocation-related cost type. Beyond those, extra cost types are rare.
- GL decision: cost types can drive posting to the GL, so which equipment costs the client needs to see separately on the GL should help decide the list. EM Cost Codes, the next form, posts to the GL at a finer level.
- Decide / load / accept: agree the cost type list, key it, and accept with the Controller before EM Cost Codes.
Tips and gotchas
- Name the cost type Parts, not Material. Material is the common term in Job Cost and other modules, so Parts keeps equipment costs clearly separate.
Done when
- In-scope setup for this action is loaded (or explicitly N/A / hidden when optional and out of scope).
- Owner accepts the decide/load result for go-live.
- Linked Vista configuration matches what was accepted.
