HQ Units of Measure

Company Tracker action: implementation-setup-hq-units-of-measure Milestone: Headquarters / Module Setup (core_milestone_id=2) Order: 5 Estimated duration: 0.25 hours Typical owner: Controller

Purpose

Configure units of measure codes (LS for lump sum, EA for each, CY for cubic yard, and similar) used primarily in job costing at the cost type level. This is an all-company master: units apply across all companies and modules, not controlled at the group level.

Prerequisites

  • Company / database context exists (UOM is an all-company master, not group-controlled).
  • Review Vista preloaded units; decide which client-specific units to add (extend, do not rebuild from scratch).
  • Cost-type / estimating measurement approach understood enough to flag LS (lump sum) where quantity entry must not be allowed.

Vista configuration article

See the detailed Vista guide:

Setting Up HQ Units of Measure

Field meanings and form steps live there. Do not restate them on this page.

Implementation guidance

  • Vista databases ship with a solid preloaded units list. New implementations typically extend that list with client-specific units.
  • Critical gotcha: LS (lump sum) does not allow units entry. Flag this when setting up cost types. Choosing LS means no quantity entry.
  • Changes affect the entire Vista instance because UOM is all-company.
  • Consumers: JC cost types, materials, estimating, and inventory quantity tracking.

Done when

  • Preloaded UOM list reviewed; any client-specific units required for JC cost types / materials are present.
  • Team confirmed LS behavior: no units entry against lump-sum UOM.
