TAD Connection Options (Decision Tree)
Goal: get your computer onto the network that can reach the Vista SQL server (the network with the TLS Database Endpoint or IPSec VPN / whitelisted IP access).
Decision Tree
Are you currently on the network that has access to the Vista SQL server (TLS Database Endpoint / IPSec VPN / whitelisted network)?
Yes → You can connect to TAD normally from Excel.
In TAD > Options, set your Server and authenticate with either:
Cloud-Hosted Vista: SQL Account, or Windows Account when using Excel in AVD Remote Desktop.
On-Premise: SQL Account or Windows Account.
No → Go to step 2.
Can you connect to an internal VPN that puts you on the whitelisted network?
Yes → Connect to the VPN, then connect to TAD. (This is a documented fix when you’re not on the whitelisted network.)
No → Go to step 3.
Do you have access to Excel in the AVD Remote Desktop?
Yes → Use Excel in AVD Remote Desktop and connect to TAD from there.
For Cloud-Hosted Vista, Windows Account authentication is supported in AVD.
No → Go to step 4.
Are you consistently connecting from the same home/remote IP address?
Yes → Submit a support ticket to Trimble to whitelist that IP so you can connect from home.
No → You’ll need a VPN option that lands you on the whitelisted network, or move to a network that already has access.
