Setting Up Payroll Tax State Defaults for Timecards
Overview
This guide provides instructions on how to properly set up payroll related to tax state defaults on timecards, specifically for job and non-job related entries.
Job Timecards
For job-related timecards, the Tax State defaults from the Job setup based on your company parameter settings. The only exception is if the "Tax State" checkbox is checked, which will then use the employee's Work Office Tax State. If this checkbox is blank, the Resident Tax State will be used. This is a common setup.
Non-Job Timecards
For non-job timecards, the Tax State will default to the PR Company Parameters Office State for all employees unless the "Tax State" checkbox is checked.
Options for Defaulting Resident State
If you want the employee's resident state to default as the Tax State for non-job timecards, you have a couple of options:
- Check the "Tax State" box on the employee record to override the PR Company Parameters Office State.
- Remove the PR Company Parameter Office State and allow the employee's Work State/Tax State to default.
