Configuring SM Pay Types

SM Pay Types sets up pay types that represent different labor costs (for example regular, OT, double time, holiday, after hours). Use them on work orders to derive labor cost estimates so you can bill before payroll is cut; actual payroll costs update the work order after payroll processes.

For each pay type you set a cost method, a Factor or Rate/Amount (depending on method), and the earnings code that defaults on technician timesheets/timecards (PR My Timesheet or PR Timecard Entry).

Before you start​

  • Open from Programs → Service Management → SM Pay Types.
  • Earnings Code must be a timesheet earnings code: Include in Remote Timesheet Entry checked on PR Earnings Codes. F4 lists only valid codes.

Steps​

  1. Open SM Pay Types.
  2. Enter Pay Type (e.g. REG, OT, DT, HOL, AH).
  3. Enter Description (up to 60 characters).
  4. Select Cost Method:
    • 0-Multiplier — Cost Rate = technician pay rate (SM Technicians) × Factor; Cost Total = Cost Rate × Cost Hours. Example: Factor 1.50, pay $35.00, hours 6.50 → Cost Rate $52.50, Cost Total $341.25.
    • 1-Dollar Rate — flat Rate/Amount becomes Cost Rate and ignores the technician pay rate. Example: $42.50 × 6.50 = $276.25.
  5. Enter Factor (multiplier: 1.00 regular, 1.5 time-and-a-half, 2.00 double-time) or Rate/Amount (dollar rate). Field defs treat this as one field whose label switches with Cost Method; the procedure lists them as separate steps.
  6. Enter or F4 Earnings Code (remote-timesheet eligible).
  7. Check Active to use the type. Unchecked = hidden from lookups and cannot be used on work-completed labor.
  8. Save.

Cost method drives the cost rate when adding work-completed labor on SM Work Orders (Work Completed tab).

Hard rules​

  • Inactive pay types do not appear in F4 / pay-type lookups and cannot be referenced on work-completed labor.
  • Multiplier always uses SM Technicians pay rate; Dollar Rate never does.
  • Earnings code must have Include in Remote Timesheet Entry checked — not every PR earnings code qualifies.
  • Form overview says you must specify “cost method, factor, and earnings code”; Factor applies only to Multiplier — Dollar Rate uses Rate/Amount instead.
