EM Equipment Code Change

EM Equipment Code Change changes an equipment code and writes the new code to all Viewpoint tables that reference it. Process one equipment code at a time. If that code exists in multiple companies, it is changed in all companies.

This is not EM Equipment (create/maintain equipment and components). Limit who can open this form. Back up the database and verify the backup before you start.

Before you start​

  • Database backup is taken and verified.
  • Agree on the new equipment code.
  • Post every open batch that still contains the old code (the form lists them if any remain).
  • No other user is already changing that same code.

Steps​

  1. Open EM Equipment Code Change (Job Resources → Equipment Management → Setup/Maintenance → Change Equipment Code).
  2. Enter Old Equipment (the existing code), then press Tab or Enter.
    • If another user is already changing that code, a message says it is being changed and you cannot continue. The message also shows the new equipment number and the user changing it.
    • If it is not locked, Vista checks open batches and warns when the code is in any. Open Batch List shows those batches — post all of them before you can change the code.
    • If it is in no open batches, the Table List tab lists every table where the code exists and the record count in each table.
  3. Enter New Equipment. Change becomes enabled.
  4. Select Change. Vista cycles through all listed tables and updates every record that references the old code. When finished, a message says the change is complete and offers to change another code.

Notes​

  • The Equipment Master table (EMEM) is not shown on Table List, but it is updated automatically with the new code.
  • History update = every table on Table List, plus EMEM, in every company that has the code. Help does not document an undo.
  • Changing Job and Location on EM Equipment does not write transfer history — use EM Location Transfer (or import) for location history. That is separate from a code change.
