HQ Company Setup

HQ Company Setup creates and maintains company records—name, address, tax ID, audit options, and the eight group assignments that control which shared masters the company uses.

Before you start

  • Have the legal name, mailing address, and federal tax ID.
  • Decide which groups this company shares with other companies (see Managing HQ Groups).

Steps

  1. Open HQ Company Setup.
  2. Enter a new company number (historically 1–255; higher ranges may be available depending on your Vista version).
  3. Enter the business name and mailing address.
  4. Enter the federal tax ID.
  5. Enable audit checkboxes so changes are tracked.
  6. On Additional Info, assign each of the eight group fields: customers, vendors, materials, tax codes, phase codes, equipment cost codes, equipment shops, and contacts.
  7. For each group, either share an existing group with another company or create a separate group number.
  8. If you need consolidated statements with elimination entries, create a separate elimination company with GL-only setup.

Notes

  • Never share group numbers between live companies and test companies.
  • Each legal entity needs its own company number.
