Managing JC Original Estimates
JC Original Estimates creates original estimates for each phase / cost type on a job. Estimated units enable percent complete for progress, suggested billing, and meaningful JC reports. Access from the main menu or by double-clicking a cost type on the Estimates grid in JC Jobs / JC Job Phases.
This article is the day-to-day estimate entry path. Master phase setup and job assignment are covered in Setting Up JC Job Phases.
Before you start
- The job exists and phases you will estimate are known.
- JC Phases master cost types, UOM, and bill flags are ready (Initialize Cost Types copies from there).
- You have permission to maintain original estimates.
Steps
- Open JC Original Estimates (or double-click a cost type in the JC Jobs / Job Phases Estimates grid).
- Enter Hours, Units, Unit Cost, and Cost by phase / cost type. Job Total and Phase Total update as you save. Total cost follows units x unit cost and recalculates when those change.
- If you add phases here, cost types do not auto-add. Run Initialize / File > Initialize Cost Types to pull cost types, UOM, and Bill Flag from JC Phases. Hours / Units / Unit Cost / Cost start at 0.00; then enter estimates.
- Save. Continue until Job Total and Phase Total match the intended baseline.
Notes
- For lump-sum (LS) UOM with JC Progress Entry, enter Units as 1 or 100 so percent complete can be posted. Otherwise unit entry is generally restricted for LS.
- Entries made here show Source J - Entered in Job Cost. When also using PM Project Phases, Trimble maps related Update statuses (Y / N / I) for PM-entered combinations; JC-entered rows stay J.
- Change orders update current estimates, not these original amounts. See Managing JC Change Orders.
