Setting Up EM Categories
EM Categories group similar equipment that share the same usage rates. Category rates live in Revenue Rates by Category. Revenue Rates by Equipment can override those rates per unit. Categories also feed location tracking and supply a default PR Class for operating equipment.
Before you start
- EM Company Parameters is configured.
- Know how equipment will be grouped for shared rates (for example excavators, pickup trucks, generators).
- Plan to create categories before Revenue Rates by Category rows.
Steps
- Open EM Categories.
- Enter the category code and description for a group of similar equipment that will share usage rates.
- Save the category.
- Assign the category on each EM Equipment record in that group.
- After categories exist, configure rates on Revenue Rates by Category. That form also supplies the default PR Class used when operating equipment posts through Payroll.
- Use Revenue Rates by Equipment only for units that must differ from the category standard rate.
- Rely on categories when reviewing current item locations; location tracking uses category membership to identify equipment in location views and transfers.
Notes
- Create categories before category rates. Rate rows require a valid category and revenue code.
- Soften any assumption that this form alone drives T&M billing or general reporting. Trimble documents categories for shared usage rates, PR Class defaulting, and location tracking. Broader billing or report design is an implementation choice outside this form's help.
