Setting Up EM Locations

EM Locations add optional location tracking on top of departments. Tracking uses a job code and a location code; either may be blank. Use locations when you need yard/shop/job placement beyond the department GL structure.

Before you start​

  • Decide whether location tracking is required for your fleet, or departments alone are enough.
  • Know the three assignment patterns you will use: job only, non-job location (shop/yard), or job + location.
  • EM Location Transfer is the tool that creates transfer history when equipment moves.

Steps​

  1. Open EM Locations.
  2. Enter the location code and description.
  3. Leave Active checked for locations that may be assigned on new equipment or transfers. Locations are active by default.
  4. Save.
  5. Assign locations using one of these patterns:
    • Job only: job code filled, location blank (equipment is on a job without a finer location).
    • Non-job location: location filled, job blank (shop, yard, or other non-job site).
    • Job + location: both filled when you track a place on a job.
  6. Move equipment with EM Location Transfer (or supported imports). Do not rely on typing a new job/location on the equipment record if you need transfer history.

Inactive locations​

  1. Uncheck Active when a location should no longer be used for new assignments. Inactive locations cannot be used on new records; existing history still appears on reports.
