Setting Up GL Budgets

GL Budget Codes store budgets at the GL account and month level so you can compare actuals to plan (and compare budgets to each other when you use more than one code).

Before you start

  • Have budget amounts by account and month ready (spreadsheet if you will import).

Steps

  1. Open GL Budget Codes.
  2. Create a budget code (for example the fiscal year, or a short code such as Code1).
  3. Enter budget amounts by month, GL account, and amount—manually, or prepare an import file with those columns and load it through the Imports module.
  4. Use additional budget codes only when you need side-by-side budget comparisons or custom reporting.

Notes

  • Inaccurate import data overwrites good budgets—validate the file first.
  • Keep naming consistent if you compare budgets across years.

Tips

  • One shared budget code is enough for many companies; the month distinguishes periods.
  • Prefer import for large charts.
