Setting Up HR Benefit Groups

HR Benefit Groups sets up benefit groups when multiple employees share the same set of benefits. Create the group, then assign HR Benefit Codes on the Benefit Codes tab. Those codes can be initialized for employees at hire (see HR Benefit Initialization).

Trimble help for this form does not document employee-portal filtering or eligibility rules — only shared sets for hire initialization and Active/Elective behavior.

Before you start

  • Benefit codes already exist. Benefit Code on the group must be a valid HR Benefit Codes value.

Steps

  1. Open HR Benefit Groups (HR and Payroll → Human Resources → Benefits).
  2. Enter Benefit Group (unique, up to 10 characters) and Description (up to 30).
  3. On the Benefit Codes tab, add each Benefit Code that belongs to the group.
  4. For each code, set Elective:
    • Unchecked (not elective) — initialized as Active. Automatic earnings, deductions, and liabilities can initialize for Active benefits.
    • Checked (Elective = Y) — initialized inactive. Someone must activate the benefit later in HR Resource Benefits before automatic EDLs initialize.
  5. Save. Use the group when initializing benefits at hire (HR Benefit Initialization).

Hard rules

  • Elective codes stay inactive after init until manually activated on HR Resource Benefits — EDLs will not initialize while inactive.
  • Non-elective codes initialize Active automatically.
