Using VA Copy Company Security

VA Copy Company Security copies security setup from one company to another so groups and users with the same setup do not have to be configured company by company. Trimble procedure title: Copy Company Security. There is no help topic titled “Using VA Copy Company Security.”

It copies module, form, tab, report, inquiry, work center, and attachment type security only. It does not copy data-level security.

Before you start​

  • You have more than one company, and groups or users that should share the same setup.
  • You have form-security permission to administer security for the source and destination companies. If a company is missing from F4 lists, you lack that permission.
  • For initial setup, Trimble recommends VA Form Security, which can set access for multiple or all companies at once, instead of relying on company-to-company copies.

Steps​

  1. Open VA Copy Company Security.
  2. From Company: source company (F4).
  3. To Company: choose Company (one destination, F4 in the box to the right) or All Companies.
  4. Delete existing security in destination company before copying?
    • Checked: wipe destination security for the selection, then copy.
    • Unchecked: copy only permissions not already defined for the selected groups/users; existing permissions stay.
  5. Copy Security type:
    • Security Group — form security for program security groups (procedure purpose still names module and tab as part of the overall copy).
    • Report Group — report, inquiry, and work center security for report security groups.
    • Attachment Group — attachment type security.
    • User(s) — one, several, or all users.
  6. Optional Sort Groups by ID (groups only; does not apply when the list shows Users).
  7. Select items (All / None).
  8. Click Copy Security → confirm → OK → wait for the complete message.
  9. Repeat as needed, then Close.

Online field definitions cover From Company, To Company, the delete checkbox, Copy Security type, Sort Groups by ID, and the selection list. They do not define the Copy Security button, All/None, or Close.

Hard rules​

  • Data-level security is never copied (use VA Data Security Setup / Access separately).
  • Missing companies in F4 = no form-security admin rights for that company.
  • Delete checkbox replaces destination permissions for the selected users/groups (procedure says “all existing security settings” in the destination; field def scopes the wipe to selected users).
  • Sort Groups by ID is group-only.
